Summary
After graduating high school, in 1951, he began working at a decoration specialty shop in Asakusa, Kyoto. While working part-time, he attended a vocational school to pursue a career in commercial art. However, a few months later, he decided to become an actor. By the age of twenty, he was appearing in NHK radio dramas. He also performed in numerous anime productions, debuting in animation in 1963 as Black in Wolf Boy Ken.
His voice type was a bright and lively tenor, with a unique quality. He excelled at playing comical, bumbling characters and often portrayed gang leader-like figures. Additionally, he was well-known for his roles as expressive animals. He never shied away from voicing animal characters, and even for roles such as fleas or cockroaches, he always took his work seriously and made it his own. In 2015, he received the "Merit Award" at the 9th Seiyuu Awards in recognition of his long-standing contributions.
Notable roles include Albert Heinrich/004 in Cyborg 009 (original series) and Butagorilla in Kiteretsu Encyclopedia.

Although he appeared healthy with no chronic illnesses in his later years, he passed away from acute heart failure on August 1, 2022, in Tokyo.
