Summary
As a child, she was fascinated by the passionate performance of a storyteller during a kamishibai show of Golden Bat. During her middle school years, she joined the drama club and began performing on stage, which inspired her to pursue a career as a stage actress. In 1995, she took on her first voice acting role as Akagi Ritsuko in Neon Genesis Evangelion, which brought her instant fame. She has stated that without Evangelion, she wouldn't have become a voice actor and that the series completely changed her life. Before this, she had little involvement in voice acting and mainly worked as a stage actress, performing with the Dōgaku Sensei troupe and in joint productions with Germany and other Asian countries.
Her notable roles include Akagi Ritsuko in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Nico Robin in ONE PIECE, and Nurse Joy in the Pokémon series.
