She was born in 1936 in Beiping City (now Beijing), China, as the eldest of four sisters. After moving from China, she lived in Shizuoka Prefecture with her family.
From a young age, she loved reading, immersing herself in the world of stories, and enjoying her imagination. At school, she was passionate about the drama club after class, especially growing up with a fondness for period dramas. She dropped out of high school and passed the entrance exam for the Shochiku Opera Company, moving to Tokyo. However, feeling her inexperience, she transferred to the acting department of Toho Entertainment School to start from the basics, three months after joining the company. After graduating, she joined the Nichigeki Dancing Team. Even after leaving the team, she continued to act in dramas and on stage and made her debut as a voice actress, prompted by a commercial job.
Her voice type is described as "a fantastic and versatile mezzo-soprano." She has been active as a voice actress since the 1960s, with her first leading role as Monster Taro in "Kaibutsu-kun." Although she was active in the front lines for many years, in her later years, she focused on teaching as an instructor at a vocational school's voice acting department, distancing herself from the field.
