Summary
In 1966, at the age of 8 and in the second grade of elementary school, he joined the Gekidan Himawari theater troupe with his older brother. (His older brother, Shioya Kōzō, is also a voice actor.) Initially, he appeared in movies and TV dramas as an actor. Around the time he was in the sixth grade or his first year of middle school, he made his voice acting debut dubbing the foreign film Ulysses. At the time, his mother would accompany him to the studio, and he would memorize all his lines and dub while watching the footage.
During high school, he drifted between different production companies without a clear career goal. From the 1980s onwards, he focused on voice acting, portraying a wide range of characters in various works, from cheerful boys to animals, delinquents, comic relief characters, and suave middle-aged men. He became known as a "master supporting actor in the voice acting world." Since the 2000s, he has also been active as an instructor at voice acting training schools.
His voice type is soft, neither too high nor too low. He often plays roles such as boys and comedic relief characters.
Notable roles include Will A. Zeppeli in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Miyagi Ryōta in Slam Dunk.
