As a high school student, he watched the Western film Purple Noon and thought, "Voice acting seems interesting," which sparked his interest in the field. Originally aspiring to be an announcer, Kosugi worked as a salaryman at Shochiku after graduating from university. However, a regular at a bar invited him to do a commercial narration job. Drawing on his experience from his student days, he accepted the job, which became his entry point into voice acting.
In 1985, he made his official voice acting debut in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, providing narration and voicing Henken Bekkener. He is known for his deep, masculine, and sexy voice, often portraying tough, charismatic, and muscular characters. In film dubbing, he voiced Dylan in Beverly Hills, 90210 and was cast as James Bond (played by Daniel Craig) in the 007 series without an audition.
