A Japanese female singer. The singer Yuuyu is her daughter. She was affiliated with a children's choir in Kanazawa since the fourth grade of elementary school. During junior high and high school, she belonged to the drama club and also performed in the prefectural competition. After graduating from high school in 1983, she released a single "STAR STORM", debuting as an idol singer.
Her representative works include singing the ending theme "Kimi wo Nosete" for Miyazaki Hayao's animated film "Castle in the Sky", and in his next film "My Neighbor Totoro", she performed the main theme "Tonari no Totoro" and the opening theme "Sanpo".
