Summary

In the third grade of elementary school, a friend who was in a children's theater group invited me to audition for the troupe, saying, "They're recruiting now, why don't you try out?" I went and was accepted. Initially, I was interested in acting but didn't aspire to become an actor in the future. It felt more like an extension of playing and pretending after watching movies.

In my second year of middle school, I played the lead role in NHK's TV drama "Jiro's Story," and it was around that time I started to seriously consider acting. My performance was highly regarded, and I gained fame as a "child prodigy" in acting. My first voice acting job was in a radio drama. In the mid-1970s, alongside my acting career, I took on several jobs, including dubbing for foreign films, and made my debut in anime with "Invincible Steel Man Daitarn 3."

My notable role is "Char Aznable" in "Mobile Suit Gundam." I have voiced red characters, such as Shanks in "ONE PIECE," and while not red, I have played "Akai Shuichi" in "Detective Conan," whose name contains the character for "red." In an interview for my role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in "Iron Man," I even said, "If it's 'red,' I'll do anything!"
